Workplace Essential Skills Training in Red Deer

Essential Skills are the skills needed for work, learning, and life. They provide the foundation for learning all other skills and enable people to evolve with their jobs and adapt to workplace change.

Academic Express has been delivering Workplace Essential Skills Training to employers in Central Alberta since 2012. Training is provided in the following areas:

  • Numeracy - make calculations, take measurements, budgeting/accounting activities, make estimations

  • Workplace reading - understanding materials written in sentences or paragraphs (letters, manuals)

  • Document use - read signs, labels, use graphs or charts, create or read schematic drawings

  • Working with Others - work as a member of a team, participate in supervisory or leadership activities

  • Communication in the workplace - resolve conflicts, lead discussions, provide or obtain information

  • Writing - write to organize and record information

  • Problem Solving - identify and resolve problems, make decisions, use critical thinking

  • Computer Use - use different forms of technology, use word processing software, email, spreadsheets

  • Continuous Learning - participate in an ongoing process of improving skills and knowledge

The Canada-Alberta Job Grant can help fund Workplace Essential Skills training for new and/or current employees by reimbursing up to 2/3 of training costs.
